Alleged M4 MacBook Pro packaging leak highlights a few new upgrades

Originally shared on social media by ShrimpApplePro, an apparent packaging leak for the M4 MacBook Pro appears to show off some features for the laptop that we weren’t quite expecting. The leak has not been verified, so take it with a grain of salt.

According to the leak, the new M4 MacBook Pro will have 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Previous leaks suggested that all M4 Macs would start with at least 16GB of RAM, and this packaging reaffirms that.

Furthermore, this packaging claims that the base model M4 MacBook Pro will have a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, as previous reports suggested. The M3 chip currently has an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU.

Another interesting detail is that this packaging states that the model will have three Thunderbolt 4 ports, unlike the current M3 MacBook Pro. The current base model MacBook Pro only has two Thunderbolt ports.

Finally, although unclear, one line appears to say “SPB/10C CPU/10C GPU/16GB/512GB” while listing the specs. “SPB” is an abbreviation for Space Black on MacBook packaging, while silver models use “SLV.” This could mean that the base MacBook Pro will come in Space Black instead of Space Gray like last year.

This leak seems very vague and can be recreated very easily. However, if it is a fake, it is a very good fake. One commenter pointed out that the packaging shows a QR code to learn more about the MacBook, which Apple only started doing with the iPhone 16 series.

Then again, it also refers to “Apple ID” on the packaging, so who knows. Apple seems to be a bit inconsistent about using “Apple Account everywhere” as the transition begins.

Are you excited about the new M4 MacBook Pros? This new basic model seems attractive. Let us know in the comments.
