Some Manchester United fans have a wild theory about who their next manager could be after discovering what they say is a “clue” on their website.
Erik ten Hag is again under enormous pressure after a gloomy start to the new season.
United have taken just seven points from six games in the Premier League, winning two, drawing one and losing three, leaving them in 13th place.
The 3-0 defeat to Spurs last weekend, which followed a disappointing 1-1 Europa League draw against FC Twente days earlier, was one of United’s worst games under Ten Hag.
His job is said to be safe for the time being ahead of the games against Porto, but activity on United’s official website has led many to wonder if a change might be on the horizon.
One fan came across a new United vest in the club shop, now reduced to £337.

Gareth Southgate has been closely linked with the United job for some time and given his association with a vest, the user tagged him in the post – with the caption: “Couldn’t be anything but haven’t seen this on the website until now. ..”
Naturally, the tweet provoked many reactions from others online, although the majority do not appear to be in favor of the former England boss as Ten Hag’s replacement.

One wrote: “Oh, I didn’t fucking need this on Monday morning.”
A second simply said: “Please no.”
A third commented: ‘I heard someone talking about how things would go well today with Gareth as manager. I had to mind my own business.’
A fourth added: “Oh ffs. It’s going to happen, isn’t it.”
A final person replied: “Oh no. Southgate merchandise is already on the Man Utd website.”
The same problems persist for Ten Hag and United despite spending big on new signings in the summer.
The former Ajax boss stayed on board after winning the FA Cup last season and says he is not worried about his future.

After the Spurs loss, he said: “No, I’m not thinking about this. We all made this decision together to stay together as an owner and leadership group in the summer. We also made the decision based on a clear evaluation of what we need to improve and how we want to put together a team.
“But we knew it would take some time, given the period when some players arrived late [Manuel] Ugarte. We also need to make some improvements in the organization, some injuries, we need some time.
“We’re all on one page or in one boat together, the ownership, the staff and the players too. I’m not worried about that.”
