Gary Neville has spoken out against Erik ten Hag after Manchester United’s brutal 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
United suffered perhaps their worst defeat of the season on Saturday when they were completely dominated by Spurs in a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevksi and Dominic Solanke, alongside a red card for captain Bruno Fernandes, secured the three points for the visitors and left United bruised and embarrassed.
After the match, former player Neville spoke out against United manager Ten Hag, and he didn’t hold back.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the former defender wondered whether United’s players still trusted Ten Hag.
He said: “Do the players not believe what Erik ten Hag tells them to do? Or do they not believe in it?
“One thing I can say is that their sign-up to do this was terrible and the most worrying thing was Eriksen’s comment on Wednesday evening that he felt FC Twente wanted it more, that they were hungrier.
“That’s a player who stands in the middle of the dressing room and who I think is very well respected by the rest of his colleagues and by the manager. He questions the motivation and attitude of his players.
“We saw it here today, they really didn’t try hard in the first half.”
Neville then compared United’s current situation to other times in recent history where it seems as though players have been discouraged or unmotivated in the final games of a manager’s time at the club.

He continued: “In the past, when Manchester United have been in a position where a manager has been under pressure, sometimes the players have felt the pressure and been tense and looked exhausted and have no belief. That could mean that they look like they are.” t work hard.
“I don’t believe a player goes on the pitch and doesn’t want to play well, so I’m torn as to why Eriksen said that about his teammates, because what we saw there in that first half today backs it up.”
