‘We March On’ – Palworld developer comments on Nintendo lawsuit

The developers of Palworld will not allow Nintendo’s recently filed lawsuit to change their plans for the future of the game. So says Pocketpair’s Global Community Manager John “Bucky” Buckley, who defiantly vowed to “march on” during an interview with Game Rant about the future of Palworld at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

Considering how much time had passed since the game’s early access release, many were surprised when Nintendo announced a little earlier this month that it would be taking legal action against Pocketpair for patent infringement. This also included the Pocketpair team, which Bucky said had not received any direct communication from Nintendo before the lawsuit was filed.

Some analysts have speculated that the patent allegedly infringed by Pocketpair could have something to do with the creature capture mechanisms, although there has been no official word on whether this is actually the case. Somewhat surprisingly, Bucky and the Pocketpair team are also left in the dark here, with the Global Community Manager telling Game Rant that they still have no idea what they might have done wrong, despite over a week now having passed since the court case. was first announced.

It’s worth noting that Bucky’s comments aren’t much different from those in the statement Pocketpair released shortly after Nintendo’s lawsuit was filed. In particular, their pledge to “ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas” sends a very similar message, both to the player base and to those who would try to stifle their creativity with the threat of legal action. .

The future remains bright for Palworld

Outside of the upcoming lawsuit, Pocketpair remains positive about the future of Palworldand for a very good reason. The record-breaking game still averages over 20,000 concurrent players on Steam, and PS5 sales are already “going well” despite Palworld was only released for console a few days ago. The team also has a “substantial” update planned for later this year, which Bucky believes has the potential to surprise many players.

For those interested in learning more about the future of Palworld, Game Rant’s interview with Pocketpair will be published on the site in the coming days.
